Brian Haas, Ph.D., is vice president of Central Engineering for KLA-Tencor’s global products group, managing several centers-of-excellence in engineering disciplines spanning all KT product lines.  These disciplines include stages, sensors, platform design, software quality, packaging, statistical practices, strategic suppliers, and ECO systems.  Brian also oversees KT engineering centers in India and China.  
 
After joining KLA-Tencor in 2003, Haas initially served as vice president of engineering and then as general manager of the Surfscan / ADE division, and later as general manager of the reticle products division. Responsibilities included general profit and loss across all functions of the business, with direct reporting from engineering, marketing, applications technology, and dotted-line reporting from sales, human resources, finance, global product service and manufacturing.
 
Most recently he was vice-president of Customer Experience in global customer operations, optimizing across peer functions (divisions, sales, manufacturing, service, legal) to improve the customer experience by directly managing corporate quality, sales operations, field resource operations, customer ramp operations, IP protection, and voice-of-customer programs.  
 
Brian started his career as a research scientist in the Thermosciences Institute at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif. There, he performed computer simulations of spacecraft during atmospheric entry, as well as fundamental research in new methods for computer simulation of high temperature, chemically-reactive, low-pressure gas flows. He also worked at Applied Materials, joining in 1995 as a member of the technical staff where he conducted computer modeling of fluid dynamics and thermophysics in semiconductor processing chambers. He served his final three years as senior director and general manager of its Rapid Thermal Processing division. 
 
Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mathematics and engineering mechanics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a master’s and doctorate degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University.  
 
Brian serves on industry advisory boards for the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering, as a mentor for entrepreneurs in the prestigious Global Social Business Incubator program at Santa Clara University, and as a mentor for professional women advancing into executive ranks through the WOMEN Unlimited LEAD program.  He has authored dozens of published research articles and holds 12 patents.
